The Journey

Olivia Tyler has just finished her 4th semester of college at BYU. She's almost halfway done! At least, she should be. She's taken so many classes, yet she still doesn't know what she wants to be when she "grows up." She thought she wanted to be a fashion designer, but it wasn't as much fun as she imagined. She considered being the owner of a vintage dress shop, but she hated the idea of running her own business. Her friend Sam tells her to relax; she has the whole summer to decide. To cheer her up, Sam invites her to come with her to volunteer at the Crisis Respite Nursery in Orem. Olivia isn't so sure about it, but Sam urges her to "try it out." Time flies by as they play with the cute little kids. Olivia has so much fun that she wants to come back! She starts volunteering on a weekly basis, and her ideas about her major begin to form...

Hero: Olivia Tyler
Ordinary World: College Life
Call to Adventure: going with Sam to volunteer
Special World: Crisis Respite Nursery

  1. Dear Ms. Hamilton,
I enjoyed this college-girl story--it was neat to read about a protagonist that could be in our midst! I Think it is both an original and sweet storyline.
I think it would be effective, however, to note whether or not Sam is a nickname for a best buddy named Samantha (female) or a best friend/love interest (male). It might appeal to a different audience, if that's the sort of story you're going for.
    Great work, as always.
    Sincerely,
    Genevive

  2. Thanks for your comment, Genevive. I didn't even realize that I forgot to mention whether Sam was a girl or a boy. I was initially planning on the character being a girl but after reading your comment, now I'm not really sure! Either one would make a good story.

  4. I love this! I like how it seems realistic, not knowing what you want to do in life. I can relate.
